Much like a three-dimension contour drawing, String Chair simulates solid volumes by the definition of the form’s exterior edges. Anchored into the wall and floor, the individual elastic lines transform at the center into a unified, volumetric presence, creating a perceptual ambiguity between line and volume, space and solidity, weight and weightlessness, the perceived and the real.  The dependence of the lines to the architecture adds to the ephemeral nature of the work as the carefully balanced tension and right angles of the form quickly revert back to loose and shapeless lines when de-installed at the end of an exhibition.
